HINGHAM-HULL 15s WIN FIRST STATE TOURNAMENT GAME!!
T he Hingham-Hull 15 yr. old Babe Ruth team won their first State Tournament game by beating Burlington 7-2. The team jumped out with 3 runs in the first inning and added from there. Rob Madden started the game by striking out the first three batters for Burlington at the top of the first inning and then hit a two run homer at the bottom of that inning.
The outcome of the game was never in question thanks to the pitching of Rob Madden, the hitting and heads up base running by a number of his teamates and some stellar defense behind him. Catcher C.J. Mulieri threw out two attempts to steal second and Madden picked off two at first base.
The game ended with a double play in the top of the seventh started with a come backer to Madden who flipped to Evan Flanagan at shortstop who turned the throw to first baseman Austin Murphy. Madden then struck out the last batter to seal the win.
The team plays its next State Tournament game against Lynn at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday the 24th. and then again on Sunday the 25th. against Medford at 5:15 p.m. All games are played at Siever Field in Plymouth at 14 Liberty Street which is a beautiful venue. The guys would love some home town support in their quest for the State Championship!
