8/11/08 Meeting Minutes
Present: Igo, Thorne, Peloquin,Sherman,Flanagan, Blomberg and Hutchins
I. Treasurer's Report
There is currently $14,500 in the account. Supplemental umpire money is owed which will bring the total down to $11,100 remaining in the account after that is paid. There remains a need to collect money from a few summer baseball players.
II. Equipment
$3,002 was spent on the spring season and $5,182 was spent on the summer season for a total of $8,184.00. It was recommended that $7,000 is the goal to be expended for equipment in future years.
The equipment will continued to be stored at Castle Storage which is paid through June 2009 costing $1,639.00.
III. Fall Ball
There is an interest in having a Fall Ball league for 13-15 year olds run out of Marshfield which Bob Madden said he was interested in coaching. Player interest will be gauged and plans will be made in accordance with that interest.
IV. Rec Commission Meeting
There is a Rec Commission meeting on September 4th. at 7:00 p.m. at which the baseball field situation will be discussed. Representatives of HHBR are planning on attending.
V. Summer Baseball
The 13A's won the All Star Summer Baseball League Championship. A request was made for assistance with trophies and t-shirts since none were provided by the summer league.$98 was approved for a large engraved trophy for the trophy case at the Beal Street Field House, $176 was approved for individual trophies and $300 was approved for t-shirts.
The next board will explore combining the spring and summer registrations into one registration with a discounted fee for registering for both seasons. It was also discussed that players should no longer be allowed to "play up" beyond their designated baseball age.
There was discussion about running a summer league ourselves. Mark Igo will contact Dave Scott about starting this in motion.
VI. Sponsorships
All sponsors for the 2008 season have paid
VII. Umpires
There will be an increase in the compensation for umpires for the 2009 season, solo umpires will receive $50 and two umpires working a game together will cost $75.
VIII. Managers
It is anticipated that approximately 50% of the managers will return for the 2009 season. It was recommended to explore increasing the number of managers from Hull.
IX. Uniforms and Equipment
All uniforms and equipment for both the spring and summer seasons are to be turned in on September 6th. at 9 am. at Castle Storage in Weymouth. Ron Hutchins will call all managers to inform them of this date.
X. Next Meeting
The next meeting for this year's board will be held on September 15th. at 7:30 p.m. at 738 Main Street
The annual meeting will be held on Sunday, October 19th. at 6 p.m. at the Rec. Leo Peloquin will publish this in the Hingham Journal.
