BOD 4/8/08 Meeting Minutes
Present: Blomberg, Thorne, Hutchins, Trubia, Igo, Coveney, O'Brien, Donovan, Flanagan, Sherman, Linehan

I. Treasurer's Report
Total in account is $23,757.80 after payment for insurance and charter. It is anticipated this amount will be adequate to cover upcoming expenses such as umpires, Bud Thorne Classic tournament, bats etc...

II. Registration
All 12 teams except 2 now have 15 players due to the filling of roster spots with late registrants. There are only 2 roster spots remaining, 1 on Rob Blomberg's team and 1 on Leo Peloquin's team. Once these are filled with late registrants, all other late registrants will have to be placed on a waiting list.
It was decided that, due to difficult logistics after the draft, the Fahie brothers would remain on separate teams. It was suggested that, for next year, registration forms should include a section where parents could formally request that their children be drafted onto the same team so that this issue is clarified prior to the draft.

III. Insurance/Charter
Confirmation that HHBR was insured as of 4/3/08 and that the charter was renewed as of 4/4/08 was received this week. Additional Insured Certificates have been requested for the Town of Hingham and Hingham Rec. An Additional Insured Certificate will also be requested for the Town of Hull, Parks and Recreation.

IV. Game Schedule
The first game of the season will be on Tuesday, April 29th. rather than Monday the 28th. due to Town Meeting scheduled for the 28th. The final game will be on May 28th with the playoffs commencing on Sunday, June 1st.
There will be 11 regular season games, 3 games in the Bud Thorne Classic and between 1-3 games in the playoffs for a total of between 15-17 games. Each team will generally play 1 game during weekdays and 2 games on the weekends.
Fridays will be left open for rescheduling of rain outs at the Hingham fields. L Street Field in Hull is not available on Fridays.
The Bud Thorne Classic will be played on May 24th., 25th. and 26th. which is Memorial Day weekend. Players will be divided into teams of individual age groups ie: 15s, 14s and 13s and will play against other teams in their age group.
It was noted that the managers had been doing a good job scheduling their own practices thus far so it was decided to keep this system in place rather than assign practices. It is preferred that 2 teams practice at the same time on each available field in order to maximize field time.
After checking on other potential conflicts with field times, the 2008 HHBR regular Game Schedule will be posted on the website by Thursday morning.

V. League Rules
It was decided to keep the rule intact that requires pitchers to come into the game from a position on the field rather than change it to allow pitchers to also come into the game from the bench.

VI. Equipment
All equipment was distributed to the Managers this past Saturday.
It was decided that, due to the cost of replacing uniform jerseys, players will be assessed a $40 fee if their uniform jersey is not returned at the end of the season.
It was decided to purchase (12) 30" aluminum bats at the lightest weight permissible under Babe Ruth rules for the smaller players. (6) 32" aluminum bats will also be purchased for the Summmer District teams.
More baseballs will be distributed to the Managers during the course of the season.

VII. Miscellaneous
a. Rob Blomberg will compose a form letter to be given to the Freshman and Junior Varsity High School coaches for their signature granting permission for their players to pitch in Babe Ruth during the High School baseball season. HHBR will facilitate getting these letters to the Hingham and Hull High coaches but those players attending private high schools will be responsible for getting the letter to their coach for his signature and for returning that signed letter to HHBR. Under MIAA rules, no Varsity player can pitch in Babe Ruth during the high school season.
b. It was decided to purchase flowers for the Umpire Assignor, Bill Hess, who is undergoing heart surgery this week.
