I. Treasurer's Report
Have registration checks for 155 players, 2 fee waivers
Approximate total in account is $28,000 not including sponsorship funds. All outstanding invoices have been paid to date. Anticipate additional expenses with Joe Cushman Sports.
II. Registration
Have registrations paid in full for 158 players, 2 fee waivers. There are currently (66) 13 year olds, (53) 14 year olds and (39) 15 year olds. More registrations are anticipated as a number of previous players have yet to register. Jim Trubia will make follow-up calls to the Hull player, Rob Blomberg will call the 14 year olds and Leo Peloquin will follow-up with the 15 year olds. The current number of registered players will result in 12 teams. The maximum number of registered players allowable is 182 which would result in 13 teams with 14 players per team. Any late registrations must be received by this Saturday, 3/22 in order to be included in the Player Evaluations on 3/24.
III. Sponsors
The following sponsors have committed for the 2008 season: Boston Podiatry, CATZ Sports, Lapels, Hingham Lumber, G.W. & Wade, Hingham Police, USS Salem, Gauthier & Connors, Cerrone Chevrolet. Additional inquiries will be made of Sons of Italy, Best Chevrolet, Marathon Sports and others. The cost of sponsorship is $400 per team.
IV. Managers & Coaches
The following 12 managers have been approved for the 2008 season: Rob Blomberg, Bill Donovan, Paul Falvey, Rick Linehan, Bob Madden, Rich Magner, Dan Morrison, Leo Peloquin, Mark Schlosky, Bob Spirito, Skip Stanley and Rich Young. Joe Granatino spoke to the Board regarding his interest in managing a team for the 2008 season. The following 6 coaches have been approved for the 2008 season: Chip Becker, Paul McCallum, Matt Connors, Jim Trubia, Rudy Pompeo and Frank O'Brien. Rob Blomberg will follow-up with Bruce Corwin and Tom Coveney will follow-up with Ron Manassian and Rick West regarding a manager's position in the event that 13 teams are needed.
V. Player Evaluations
The player evaluations will be done on 3/24 at a meeting of the BOD and Managers. The player data will be compiled on a ratings sheet which will aid the Managers at the draft. The draft rounds will go on a team slotting sheet at the draft. The draft rules will be available for the Managers on Player Evaluation night.
VI. Schedule and Fields
There will be 12 games during the regular season plus at least one playoff game as all teams make the playoffs. The permit has been granted for the Hull field on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Games at the Hull field will start at 5:30 p.m. with the last inning starting no later than 7:15 p.m. Regarding the Hingham fields, Bud Thorne will meet with Barbara Pye about permits for the School Department fields. David Kilory authorized a permit application for the Union Street field. Bud will also follow-up on the permit with the Rec Department for Cronin Field. Tom Coveney will coordinate with the J.V. coach Perry and Barry Stein, who works on the fields, regarding improvements that are needed at the High School field to address safety concerns.
VII. Equipment and Uniforms
All equipment and uniforms are set for the spring season. The 13 equipment bags being provided by Chevrolet should be in by April 14th.
VIII. Umpires
There is 1 year left on the current umpire contract. As such, the rates for 2008 be $45 each for 2 umpires per game and $68 for one umpire per game. There will be 2 umpires per game on the weekend games for a total of $90 per game for those games.
IX. Bud Thorne Classic
Held May 24th., 25th. and 26th. 12 teams will be participating. Bill Donovan is coordinating this event. T-shirts for each team will be ordered to be worn during the tournament. Ralph Constantine and John Hornstra will be approached regarding any donations of food or drink they can make.
X. Insurance
It was agreed to renew the Accident and General Liability Insurances and to obtain Directors and Officers Insurance. All insurance forms are filled out and are signed by the President. When the number of teams are finalized, the final calculation for coverage will be done and the insurance applications submitted.
